The UC Book Club will next meet on Wednesday, February 11, at 4:30 via Google MeetÌýto discuss The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.Ìý In this epistolary novel, protagonist Sybil Van Antwerp sits down to write letters every day at 10 a.m. — to people she knows and to people she doesn't.Ìý Letters help her understand the world, and as an older woman who has had a full and productive life, she thinks she has worked out most of life's problems and has come to understand most of life's answers.Ìý Until all of a sudden she hasn't and doesn't.Ìý The novel was longlisted for The Center for Fiction First Novel Prize; The Wall Street Journal concurs, calling it the "'breakout novel'" of 2025.Ìý The book also appeared on the 2025 Best Book of the Year list at NPR, The Washington Post, and She Reads.Ìý
And coming up through the spring semester: ÌýThe DirectorÌýby Daniel Kehlmann and What We Can KnowÌýby Ian McEwan.
